Back Acne Treatment and Causes
Acne on the back is similar in many ways to acne on the face and ranges from mild to moderate acne with whiteheads with a few pimples to more serious conditions such as cystic acne. Back acne can include pustules and may affect teenagers but it is possible for it to extend past the twenties into the thirties or even the forties. In order to treat back acne you need to be aware of it’s causes, how to prevent it and the best back acne treatment plan.
There are a range of causes of back acne which often begins at puberty when oil production in the skin increases. Increases in oil secretion causes dirt and dust to be attracted to the follicles which then become clogged up with sebum, dust and dirt. A perfect breeding ground for the acne causing bacteria results.
Back acne also affects other areas of the body. Tight clothing can make back acne worse as this increases sweating and can prevent proper evaporation. Obviously wearing clothes is not optional but, if you suffer from this type of acne, you should try to wear looser clothes that allow the skin to breath properly. Avoid wearing synthetic materials and opt for natural fibres like cotton or linen which will reduce the amount of sweat trapped by your clothes.
You back has skin that is not as sensitive as the skin on your face is therefore you can use a more vigorous treatment plan. Benzoyl peroxide can be used and you can use products that contain up to 10% active ingredient without causing problems. As with all acne it is important to keep the skin clean, but avoid too vigorous scrubbing, which will tend to spread around the bacteria. Use a soft washcloth and mild soap. A benzoyl peroxide body wash can also be used.
For more severe acne or if cystic acne develops you really should see a dermatologist who will prescribe treatment. You may be prescribed oral or topical antibiotics to help to control the bacteria causing the acne
