Natural Cures for Acne - Green Tea

Green tea has been used as a natural cure for acne for many years. Green tea is famous for its benefits to health and has been used in China for many thousands of years to treat a variety of health problems. It is high in a compound named epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which is a powerful antioxidant. Clinical studies have reported that it does inhibit cancer cells and green tea has also been shown to be useful in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, infectious diseases and in reducing cholesterol levels.

Studies have reported that EGCG as well as being an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent also helps to decrease inflammation on the skin that occurs with acne. In a trial the American Academy of Dermatology used 1% EGCG in a cream which, when applied to the skin helped to improve the acne as much as, and many times better than, a solution benzoyl peroxide. Also the EGCG gel did not cause any dryness of the skin which is a common side effect of using benzoyl peroxide or many other chemical treatments for acne.

Gels and lotions can be purchased that contain green tea or you can easily make a preparation at home. Add some water to green tea and heat until boiling, then gently apply the cooled down preparation to your skin. In addition you can drink green tea which lets the ingredients to start to work from inside. Drink at least 3 cups of green tea each and use a solution containing green tea to your skin three times a day. In a few weeks you will notice a significant in your acne and you should have a clearer skin.

There are lots of uses for green tea for dieting and the treatment of acne is only one of them. As with all natural remedies for acne you should combine this treatment with a healthy way of life which must include drinking plenty every day and making sure you have a healthy diet.
